Stay #3: Cookville Community Gardens

When we left a message in the Creston local group on Facebook, we were contacted by Brendan who nicely offered to host us on his property in Erickson, BC -Erickson is basically a suburb of Creston. His house is part of the Cookville Community Gardens, which is a local farm dedicated to producing quality produce that is grown with organic principles. And what a garden they have! Wahou! I was blown away by their knowledge and the techniques they use. It's honestly a gorgeous place they manage to create.

The house is gorgeously surrounded by grape vines.

The garden has an astonishing view of Mt Thompson.

They smartly created a big pile of compost directly on the chicken coop's wall, to create natural heat during the winter months.

There is a beautiful harmony between plants and flowers.

This space was my favorite: they transformed the old swimming pool into an underground greenhouse. Like Brendan explained, the main problem of greenhouses is the fact it is too hot during the day and too cold during the night. They built a system collecting the heat of the day and stocking it in the ground where they laid big rocks under the dirt; and at night, the heat is naturally released. So cool!

Everything was so green and well taken care of!

And everyday, they put out some greens and homemade bread for sale at their Farm Stand. If you are in the area, you should check it out!
